Level 1 Food Safety Awareness in Retail

In 2006, new EU legislation introduced HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) legislation into the UK.

This necessitated a review of the current training standards and the old ‘Basic Food Hygiene’ discontinued in favour of the new standard level 1 and level 2 Food Safety courses which include HACCP. The Course This level 1 Food Safety for Retail course is designed as an awareness level course especially for those whose job it is to:

• Sell or handle wrapped foods • Food which is not temperature controlled e.g. fresh produce • New starters

Duration: Approximately 1 hour. Course Content The course has an introduction and eleven further sections, focussing on learners involved in the retail industry. Each section contains an activity intended to highlight and re-inforce the learning. We Deliver Training To Big Brand Media, ITV for Britain’s Best Dish.

Course overview

Holders of this level 1 awareness of Food Safety for Retail will have knowledge and understanding of the importance of keeping themselves clean, the food product hygienic and will understand the importance of maintaining good food handling practices.

For those handling low risk or unwrapped food it may be all the training needed, or for those wishing to progress to level 2 Food Safety in Retail, it will form the basis of learning for achievement at level 2. The Assessment

The course is assessed by ASET the UK awarding body via a live electronic link. After the learning has been completed, the learner will complete the required data for the awarding body and to ensure the correct personal details. The learner can then progress to the test which consists of 20 multi-choice questions (of which they must answer 66% correctly for a pass). Upon completion of the test, the learner can view or print their marked paper. Successful candidates then print their ASET certificate instantly from their PC, no waiting involved.
