Train to Gain

If you are aged 25+, have no previous qualifications higher than Level 1 and are interested in NVQ training then this could be the option for you.

Train to Gain is a new service from the Learning Skills Council (LSC) to help businesses develop the skills of their staff. We are encouraging business on the island to embrace this programme and to offer NVQ training to their staff members in the following sectors:

This NVQ qualification is free as long as you do not have any qualifications that are higher than level 1. The overall aim of the programme is to help those employees without the equivalent of 5 GCSE’s (Grades A-C) already.

If you have or are studying any of the following qualifications or a higher level qualification, then we are sorry but you will not be eligible for Train to Gain funding:

School/College Qualifications

  • 5 GCSE’s (grades A-C) or ‘O’ Levels
  • 5 CSE Grade 1’s
  • 1 or more ‘A’ Levels
  • 2 AS Levels Vocational (work related) Qualifications
  • BEC General Certificate / Diploma with Credit

HND / HNC

  • Edexcel / BTEC 1st Diploma or Higher
  • City and Guilds Higher Operative or Craft
  • GNVQ Intermediate or higher
  • NVQ Level 2, 3 or 4
  • Access Course

It is also a requirement that the company you work for does not employ more than 50 staff.
